Day 1
Reception & Transfer to the Lodge
Upon arrival at the airport or bus terminal, our team will welcome you and transfer you to the Monte Amazonico main office for registration. Travel tip: if you are carrying large suitcases, we kindly suggest repacking and bringing only the essentials for a more comfortable stay in the jungle.

Land and River Journey
Next, we will embark on a 2-hour 4×4 overland trip to our destination, reaching the banks of the Tambopata River. Here, we will board a boat for a scenic ride directly to Monte Amazonico Lodge – Tambopata. Upon arrival, you will receive a warm welcome, room assignment, and a traditional lunch.

Afternoon Introductory Hike
In the afternoon, we will set out on an introductory hike through the dense tropical forest. This initial exploration offers a wonderful opportunity to spot wildlife in its natural habitat, including amphibians, mammals, reptiles, and fascinating insects unique to the Amazonian ecosystem.

Day 2
Dawn Journey & Wildlife Spotting (4:30 a.m.)
We will wake up early to embark on a scenic 1.5-hour boat ride to the Chuncho Clay Lick, the largest macaw clay lick in the world. As we navigate the river at dawn, we will have an incredible opportunity to spot wildlife along the banks, such as tapirs and capybaras (the world’s largest rodents). With a bit of luck, we might even encounter South America’s most magnificent feline: the jaguar. Many of our guests have witnessed these beautiful mammals and captured stunning photographic proof. A camping-style breakfast will be served during the excursion.

We will set up our camp chairs to witness one of the most stunning natural avian spectacles on Earth. Following the parrots, the three most colorful macaw species in the Americas arrive: the red-and-green, along with the blue-and-yellow macaws. They gather to consume the essential clay that aids their daily digestion and eliminates toxins. On a morning of high activity, you will see hundreds of these marvelous birds flying overhead—truly a lifetime experience.

Transfer to Sandoval Lake
We will return to our lodge for lunch and a brief rest. Afterward, our boat will take us back to connect with the transport heading towards Puerto Maldonado. From there, we will take a 1-hour boat ride to our next destination: Monte Amazonico Lodge – Sandoval Lake, where you will check in and settle into your room.

Night White Caiman Safari
At nightfall, we will head out by boat along the Madre de Dios River in search of white caimans, which are typically found resting on the sandbanks (be sure to bring your flashlight). This nocturnal safari also offers another chance to spot capybaras along the riverbanks. We will conclude the day with a hearty dinner and a restful night at the lodge.

Day 3
Paddle Canoe Safari at Sandoval Lake
Following breakfast, we will embark on a 3-kilometer hike through the dense tropical rainforest toward the majestic Sandoval Lake, one of the largest and most beautiful bodies of water within the Tambopata National Reserve. Renowned as a natural habitat for piranhas, we will explore the lake aboard a paddle canoe. This peaceful approach allows us to navigate quietly and spot a stunning variety of birds and primates, including the exotic hoatzin (shansho), cormorants, jacanas, rufescent tiger herons, vultures, as well as howler monkeys, squirrel monkeys, black capuchins, tamarins, and sloths.

Traditional Lunch & Departure
After the boat safari, we will return to the lodge to enjoy a delicious traditional regional lunch. Afterward, we will pack our bags and begin our journey back to the city, ending with a final transfer to the airport or bus station.
