Itinerary

Day 1.- CUSCO - PAUCARTAMBO - CLOUD FOREST - PILCOPATA

To begin your 3-day tour of Manu, we will pick you up from your hotel early in the morning, between 5:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m., in our comfortable, private bus. During the journey, we will explore the impressive funerary towers, or Chullpas, of Ninamarca, located at 3,750 meters above sea level, and make a brief stop in Paucartambo, a charming folkloric town with a colonial bridge.
Afterward, we will head to the highlands of Paucartambo, specifically to the Acjanaco sector, located at 4,000 meters above sea level. This point marks the entrance to Manu National Park. We will descend through the mysterious cloud forest, home to an incredible diversity of flora and fauna, including beautiful orchids, heliconias, and primitive ferns. During a hike, you will have the opportunity to witness the fascinating mating ritual of the Andean Cock-of-the-rock (Rupicola peruviana). In addition, there is the possibility of spotting birds such as Trogons (Trogon sp.), Quetzals (Pharomachrus sp.) and, if we are lucky, even the elusive Spectacled Bear (Tremarctos ornatus). In the afternoon, we’ll arrive at the picturesque village of Pilcopata, located 550 meters above sea level, where our cozy, traditional lodge is located. This lodge, set apart from the town, has private bathrooms and showers for your comfort.

After enjoying a delicious breakfast, we’ll continue our journey by bus to Atalaya, a 45-minute ride that will take us to an altitude of 490 meters above sea level. In Atalaya, we’ll board a boat for a 30-minute ride to Paititi Lodge, where we’ll spend the night in traditional accommodations with private bathrooms and showers. During the boat trip, we’ll have the opportunity to observe a variety of animals in their natural habitat.
After enjoying a delicious lunch, in the afternoon we’ll head to Lake Machuwasi. There, we’ll take a ride on a typical catamaran to observe a wide variety of birds, such as the Hoatzin (Ophisthocomus hoazin), as well as monkeys, reptiles, dwarf caimans, and insects. We might also be lucky enough to spot some capybaras (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris). In the evening, we offer an exciting optional Night Trekking program for those who wish to explore the jungle in the dark. Afterward, we will return to the lodge, where private bathrooms and showers are available to ensure a comfortable and relaxing stay.

On the last day of our 3-day Manu tour, we will head early in the morning by boat for 45 minutes to the parrot clay lick, a mineral-rich clay wall. Here, we will be able to witness the astonishing gathering of 3 to 4 species of green parrots, who flock in large numbers to feed on the natural salts and minerals present at the site. After this fascinating experience, we will enjoy a delicious breakfast before continuing our journey. We will leave the boat in Atalaya and proceed by bus, passing through Pilcopata (550 meters above sea level), Patria and Chontachaca, once again crossing the mysterious cloud forest on our way back to the Imperial city. During the bus tour, we will have the opportunity to delight in the views of the cloud forest once again. We estimate to arrive in the city of Cusco at approximately 6:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., thus culminating our unforgettable trip through Manu.
