Day 1
Airport or Bus Station Reception & Briefing
Upon your arrival at the airport or bus station, our team will welcome you and transfer you to the Monte Amazonico Lodge office for an essential pre-tour briefing and check-in details.

Journey to the Lodge & Welcome
We will then transfer to the port to board our motorized boat for a scenic one-hour cruise downriver to the lodge. Enjoy a warm welcome meeting featuring a refreshing fruit juice made from native Amazonian fruits before settling into your comfortable room.

Guided Jungle Introduction Hike
After a brief rest, embark on a captivating two-hour introductory hike through the dense tropical forest. An expert local guide will lead you along our trail system, showcasing ancient trees over 500 years old. Keep your eyes open for native wildlife, including toucans, orioles, parrots, monkeys, snakes, and vibrant butterflies. This is your first immersive experience in the magic of the Amazon Rainforest within the Tambopata National Reserve—a vast protected area spanning 278,000 hectares.

Excursion to Monkey Island
Following a delicious lunch, we will take a boat across the Madre de Dios River to visit the famous “Monkey Island.” This unique habitat is home to various species, such as the brown capuchin, squirrel monkey, saddle-back tamarin, and white capuchin. Enjoy observing them in their natural environment before we navigate back to the lodge.

Night Caiman Search & Wildlife Spotting
At nightfall, we will head out by boat for an exciting caiman search along the banks of the Madre de Dios River (be sure to bring your flashlight!). With a bit of luck, we may also spot the capybara—the world’s largest rodent, which can weigh up to 60 kilograms and is a fascinating relative of the Peruvian guinea pig. We will then return to the lodge for a hearty dinner and a peaceful night’s rest.

Day 2
Sandoval Lake Adventure & Wildlife Spotting
We will begin the day with an early breakfast before taking a short boat ride to the main entrance of Sandoval Lake. After passing through the checkpoint, we will embark on a 3-kilometer (approximately 2-mile) hike that leads us to this stunning body of water—one of the largest and most biodiverse lakes in the Tambopata National Reserve, renowned as a natural habitat for piranhas and other fascinating species.
Upon arrival, we will board a paddle canoe to navigate the lake quietly. This peaceful approach allows us to spot a wide variety of birds and primates in their natural environment, including the exotic hoatzin, cormorants, jacanas, rufescent tiger herons, eagles, as well as howler monkeys, squirrel monkeys, black capuchins, tamarins, and sloths.
With a bit of luck, we might witness a family of giant river otters (an endangered species that can grow up to two meters long) or encounter the imposing black caiman, the area’s largest predator, stretching over 4 meters in length.
Finally, we will return to the lodge to enjoy a traditional regional lunch before heading back to the city.
