Itinerary

Day 1 – Iquitos to the Amazon & First Jungle Adventure

Begin with pickup at your hotel or the airport in Iquitos. Travel to the river port and board a boat for approximately 3.5 hours along the Amazon and Tahuayo Rivers to Amazon Tahuayo Paradise Lodge.

After a welcome drink and check-in, enjoy lunch before your first jungle excursion. In the afternoon, take a guided walk through the rainforest in search of monkeys, sloths, giant water lilies, and other wildlife.

After dinner, explore the Amazon at night by boat while searching for caimans, frogs, snakes, and other nocturnal species.

After enjoying a delicious breakfast, we’ll continue our journey by bus to Atalaya, a 45-minute ride that will take us to an altitude of 490 meters above sea level. In Atalaya, we’ll board a boat for a 30-minute ride to Paititi Lodge, where we’ll spend the night in traditional accommodations with private bathrooms and showers. During the boat trip, we’ll have the opportunity to observe a variety of animals in their natural habitat.
After enjoying a delicious lunch, in the afternoon we’ll head to Lake Machuwasi. There, we’ll take a ride on a typical catamaran to observe a wide variety of birds, such as the Hoatzin (Ophisthocomus hoazin), as well as monkeys, reptiles, dwarf caimans, and insects. We might also be lucky enough to spot some capybaras (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris). In the evening, we offer an exciting optional Night Trekking program for those who wish to explore the jungle in the dark. Afterward, we will return to the lodge, where private bathrooms and showers are available to ensure a comfortable and relaxing stay.

Venture into the flooded Igapó Forest in search of howler monkeys, pygmy marmosets, capuchin monkeys, sloths, and a variety of birds.

After lunch, enjoy traditional piranha fishing before taking a peaceful canoe excursion along the Tahuayo River and nearby waterways. Watch for dolphins, kingfishers, herons, and other wildlife.

After dinner, embark on a nighttime excursion in search of caimans, capybaras, nocturnal birds, and other rainforest creatures.

Spend the day exploring Lake Charo and its surrounding waterways. Travel through narrow channels by boat while looking for monkeys, sloths, colorful birds, and, when conditions allow, giant river otters.

Enjoy opportunities for canoeing, birdwatching, photography, and simply taking in the peaceful Amazon landscape.

In the evening, gather around a campfire, weather permitting, to hear Amazonian stories, legends, and traditions while listening to the sounds of the rainforest beneath the stars.

Enjoy a flexible adventure day based on your interests and preferred level of activity. Options may include a jungle survival experience, overnight camping, a challenging hike through remote rainforest trails, an extended canoe expedition, exploration of hidden lakes and waterways, wildlife photography, or birdwatching.

Depending on the activity selected, spend the evening at the lodge or experience a night camping in the rainforest with your naturalist guide.

Start with an optional sunrise excursion along the Tahuayo River, combining spectacular scenery with early-morning birdwatching.

After breakfast, take a final walk through the Igapó flooded forest in search of howler monkeys, pygmy marmosets, owl monkeys, Hoatzins, and other wildlife.

After lunch, begin the return journey by boat and vehicle to Iquitos, with transfer to your hotel or the airport.

Note: This is a flexible sample itinerary. Activities may be modified according to weather, river levels, wildlife movements, safety considerations, and your interests. Your naturalist guide will recommend the best options based on current conditions.
