From there, we will descend through the mysterious cloud forest, home to a diverse array of flora and fauna, where we can admire beautiful orchids, heliconias, and ancient ferns. We will take a hike to witness the impressive mating ritual of the Andean Cock-of-the-rock (Rupicola peruviana), as well as to spot birds such as Trogons (Trogon sp.) and Quetzals (Pharomachrus sp.), among others. If we are lucky, we may also catch a glimpse of the elusive Spectacled Bear (Tremarctos ornatus). In the afternoon, we will arrive at the charming village of Pilcopata, located 550 meters above sea level, where we will stay in a typical lodge outside the city, equipped with private bathrooms and showers to ensure a comfortable stay.
Day 2.- PILCOPATA LODGE - ATALAYA - SHINTUYA - HOT SPRINGS - BOCAMANU LODGE
Early in the morning, we will depart from Pilcopata (550 meters above sea level) and travel by bus to the Atalaya Port (490 meters above sea level), where we will embark on a thrilling 6-hour boat journey down the Alto Madre de Dios River. Along the way, you will have the chance to unwind in therapeutic medicinal hot springs before continuing our river navigation to spot a rich variety of wildlife, including herons (Ardeidae), kingfishers (Alcedo atthis), majestic vultures like the king vulture (Sarcoramphus papa), and even the rare opportunity to glimpse the iconic Jaguar (Panthera onca). Around midday, we will make a brief stop at the village of Boca Manu (280 meters above sea level) to check into our comfortable, traditional regional cabins, concluding an incredible day of exploration as we arrive at the scenic Boca Manu Lodge by afternoon.
