Day 1.- CUSCO - PAUCARTAMBO - CLOUD FOREST - PILCOPATA
The Manu trip begins with an early morning pick-up from your hotel, between 5:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m., in our comfortable, private bus. En route to our destination, we’ll stop to visit the impressive funerary towers of Ninamarca, located at 3,750 meters above sea level, followed by a brief visit to Paucartambo, a folkloric town known for its colonial bridge.
We’ll continue ascending to the upper area of Paucartambo, the Acjanaco sector, at 4,000 meters above sea level, which marks the entrance to Manu National Park. From there, we’ll descend through the mysterious cloud forest, home to a wide variety of flora and fauna, including beautiful orchids, heliconias, and ancient ferns. We’ll take a hike to give you the opportunity to witness the incredible mating ritual of the Andean Cock-of-the-rock (Rupicola peruviana). We’ll also have the chance to spot birds like trogons (Trogon sp.) and quetzals (Pharomachrus sp.), among other fascinating species. If we’re lucky, we might even catch a glimpse of the elusive spectacled bear (Tremarctos ornatus). In the afternoon, we’ll arrive at the picturesque village of Pilcopata, located 550 meters above sea level, where we’ll stay at our traditional lodge outside the town. This lodge has private bathrooms and showers to ensure a comfortable overnight stay.
Early in the morning, we will depart from Pilcopata, located 550 meters above sea level. The group will continue its journey by bus to the Port of Atalaya, situated at 490 meters above sea level. From here, we will embark on an exciting boat trip along the Alto Madre de Dios River, which will last approximately 6 hours. During the journey, we will have the opportunity to enjoy a soak in medicinal hot springs and then continue our trip while observing a wide variety of birds, including herons (Ardeidae), kingfishers (Alcedo atthis), and the majestic presence of vultures, among which the Andean condor, known as the king of vultures (Sarcoramphus papa), stands out, as well as the possibility of spotting the emblematic jaguar (Panthera onca). In the afternoon, we will arrive at Boca Manu. Around midday, we will make a brief stop in Boca Manu village, located at 280 meters above sea level, where we will check into our comfortable, traditional eco-lodges.
We will navigate the imposing Madre de Dios River until we reach the cabin, which is located very close to the impressive macaw clay lick. During our stay, we will enjoy a walk to explore the various trails surrounding the lodge, as well as the bird watching tower. At night, we will have the possibility of taking a night walk and we will stay at the lodge, which has bathroom and shower facilities to ensure a comfortable and pleasant stay.
After enjoying a delicious and nutritious breakfast, we will continue our itinerary by embarking on a boat to observe the macaw clay licks. From an observation tower or a typical catamaran in the area, we will have the opportunity to witness an impressive spectacle of birds of great variety. In addition, we will be able to spot monkeys, reptiles, dwarf lizards, insects and groups of turtles, and we may even see some capybaras (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris) nearby. After this unforgettable ride, we will head to the white lake. From a catamaran, we will have the opportunity to observe some otters and turtles, thus enjoying another fascinating experience in the natural beauty of the area.

On the other hand, those passengers who choose to take the flight from Puerto Maldonado will continue their trip to the city of Puerto Maldonado, where we end our tour.
